As a new student you activate your account by turning your temporary password (your birth date as explained below) into a permanent password that you can then use to access Webadvisor, Canvas, and your TitanLive email.

Now that you have your TitanLive username, go back to the password change and account activation tool at http://myaccount.gtcc.edu and enter it into the box for your user name.

To activate your account under "My Account", you need to use a temporary password which is your birth date expressed in six digits, MMDDYY (Example: 031583 is March 15, 1983).

Enter this number in the second text box labeled "Password." If you've had your password reset by the AT Lab, anyone at the 866 helpline, or through email elearning@gtcc.edu you will use the last temporary password given to you by that support agent and NOT your birth date. Your birth date was used as a placeholder password when the system was initially set up so that only you could activate your account. Once that password is replaced by a support agent that resets your password, the birth date password is no longer in the system and cannot be used to activate the account.

Once you've entered your correct username and temporary password on the front page, you have to create a new password to use for Webadvisor, Canvas, and your TitanLive email. You'll see three text boxes. Repeat your temporary password in the top box, type your preferred new password in both the second and the third text box. Password must contain at least one (1) character from three (3) of the following categories:

  • Uppercase letter (A-Z)
  • Lowercase letter (a-z)
  • Digit (0-9)
  • 14 Characters Required
  • Cannot contain identifying information: name, DOB, avoid commonly used words or phrases
  • Special character (~`!@#$%^&*()+=_-{}[]\|:;”’?/<>,.) Must be different from your previous password.

Your password cannot contain any part of your name or your username (Example: If your name is John Stanley Smith and your username is jssmith2 then your password cannot be Stanley1108 or jssmith2isgreat81).

There are also some common words that the system will not allow you to use such as some very common names, words such as "mother" and "mommy" or months of the year. Attempts to use any of these will yield an error message and your account will not be activated.

Note: You cannot repeat passwords. This system remembers your previous 12 passwords and will not let them be reused, so keep this in mind if you forget your password in the future. If you get any error message during this process, you need to try again with a different password as the one you tried cannot serve as a valid password. The validation system is not generating an error message telling you that you cannot repeat passwords, but this is the case. You cannot repeat passwords that you've used dating back to October 2011. The authentication system has a memory of 12 passwords per user. Enter your new password with the rules mentioned, and be sure to set the three challenge questions that are listed under "Enrollment." In some cases, new users who have not set these challenge questions and then selected LOG OUT at the top did not have their new passwords saved in the system and had to repeat this process. The challenge questions will allow you to get your password sent to you in case you forget it later.

You can also use this system to change your password if you are given a temporary password by a support agent at the 866 number, the AT Lab, or this email address. Select the "Change Password" tab then enter your temporary or "current" password and then enter your desired "new" password in the following two boxes. Repeat your password so that it matches in both boxes and so that it conforms to the password rules mentioned. If your password does not match or does not conform, you will get an error message and your password will not change. Log out and you should be able to close your browser, and then open it up to log back in. Now you can access Canvas, Webadvisor, and TitanLive. If this does not work, you must repeat the process until you are validated in this system and your account is activated.

If you are not able to access your TitanLive email: Make sure you have gone through the validation process at http://myaccount.gtcc.edu first or you will NOT be able to access TitanLive, Canvas, or Webadvisor. Once that's done, start by going either to http://titanlive.gtcc.edu or http://www.live.com and select the TitanLive tab from the menu on the main Webadvisor screen. When logging into the email system, be sure you are using your entire email address (jssmith12@gtcc.edu for example) as your username in TitanLive along with your new password. Our system is hosted by Microsoft and since many other users (who do not have @gtcc.edu in their email accounts) log into this same portal website, you must type the whole email address as the username. If you do not enter your full email address you will not get into the system to get your email.

Once you have logged into TitanLive your account will be active and you will see all the mail that's been sent to your account since the conversion in October 2011 or since your account was created. As a new user, you may be asked to set an alternate email address and your time zone. Be sure you select "Eastern Time, US & Canada" for you time zone or all your emails will be stamped with the wrong time. Imagine sending your instructor an email about a problem with a quiz but it shows to have arrived after the quiz was no longer available online.

If you need additional help during regular business hours, you may visit or call the AT Computer Lab help desk in the Sears building on the Jamestown campus at (336) 334-4822 extension 50387, or call the eLearning help desk line at (336) 334-4822 extension 31216. You can also email your questions or concerns to elearning@gtcc.edu. Be sure to have your student ID number and birth date ready as GTCC will need those to confirm your identity. You can also call our 24 hour a day, 7 day a week, toll free hotline at 1-866-826-3748 This support team can give you a temporary password reset that you will then take back to the myaccount.gtcc.edu page to establish a permanent password which you can use to access Canvas, Webadvisor, TitanCruiser, and TitanLive using the instructions above if you get locked out.

It is possible to attempt to lock yourself out of the system after five failed attempts to activate your account or to change your password. If you do get locked out, you should get an error message stating so. If this happens, let the support agent know this as they will have to unlock the account before you can attempt again to change it.

Remember to return to http://myaccount.gtcc.edu to change any password given to you by a support agent to something permanent that you can use to access Webadvisor, Canvas, TitanCruiser, and your TitanLive email in the future. Without this step, the password will only be good for one use.
